As of 2:30am on May 11th, I AM DONE WITH MY SECOND SEMESTER OF GRAD SCHOOL. *flail.gif*

I would have been done a little sooner if I hadn't gotten a designated driver call from my brother. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he called instead of doing something stupid, but I was literally on the last question of my final when he texted and I was like "nooooooooooo just let me finishhhhhh."

BUT I'M DOOOOOOONE. I have work still, obviously, and I am taking one class this summer, but it doesn't start until next month, so I do have a little free time. I'm going home this weekend because Ste leaves for his study abroad program on Monday so I'm looking forward to family time and another viewing of The Avengers and not thinking about schoolwork for a while.

Castle 4x23: Always )

Long story short: I LOVED IT AND IT LEFT ME WITH LOTS OF ~FEELINGS~

P.S. I loved Avengers like hell, too, but I don't think I'll make a post about it until I've seen it a second time (which has been postponed twice already but I think that's what Mom wants our family activity to be on Mother's Day, lol). BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

Still a little stressed about my last three papers of the semester but I had a pretty impressive breakdown yesterday that actually helped a bit.

OH YEAH, AND I GOT 100% ON MY SEMESTER-LONG SHERLOCK HOLMES REFERENCE PROJECT. 100%. A PERFECT SCORE. WITH A 'GREAT JOB' IN THE COMMENT SECTION OF THE RUBRIC. I'M A LITTLE EXCITED.

ETA: If any Holmes fans would be interested in it, I could be persuaded into posting a stripped-of-my-name version. ;)
ETA2: In case you don't know what a pathfinder is, it's essentially a document designed to help patrons begins a search for materials on a certain topic. For this assignment, we had to present at least 15 materials/sources as well as give tips on how to continue the search. I did mine on Sherlock Holmes, based on the assumption that someone has read some/most/all of ACD's canon and wants something more. So if you like Holmes stuff and want some recs (though, admittedly, I haven't read all of these: part of this class was about evaluating resources without reading them), feel free to take a look.

Disclaimer: HAHAHAHA no.
Notes: I suppose this is sort of finale-timeline, but there aren't any spoilers in it. I wrote this instead of proof-reading my Reference project, which is on Sherlock Holmes, which is why this fic... is the way it is. I HAVE A LOT OF HOLMES FEELINGS LEAVE ME ALONE.

DAWSEY IS HERE!

(Yeah, I went with Dawsey.) (The parentals bought me the zip-cover for Easter.) Came home from work to find an Amazon box at my door. First thing I loaded on there was the Sherlock Holmes canon (BIG SURPRISE). Also loaded some short stories/scripts (PDFs) I had on my external harddrive. I must admit I'm a little torn, though, because right now I just want to PLAY WITH IT but I literally just started a new book this morning (Assassin's Code by Jonathan Maberry!) and I want to read that, too. Oh, and I'm supposed to be reading for History class as well.

Too many books, too little time.

HAPPY EASTER to those who celebrate and HAPPY DAY to those who don't. :D

Mom and Dad came here to take Ste and I out to lunch for Easter. A little different than our usual family holiday but with work and such it was just easier. They still made up baskets for us; I got candy and Mom knit me a scarf in Gryffindor colors (it's actually a bit darker than the picture suggests) and a coupon for a Kindle cover.

Oh yeah, I'm buying a Kindle! I've put it off so long because I never really felt like I needed one; I like the feel of real books and I thought they were mostly convenient for travel, which is not something I do very often. However, we've been spending a lot of time in my classes talking about ereaders and ebooks and emerging technologies and how libraries must adapt to new technologies or risk failure and collapse. It's gotten to the point where I really felt like, as a library sciences student, I should have one if for no other reason than to keep up and adapt. I'm going to get the $79 Kindle; I don't need, nor do I want, all the bells and whistles that come with the bigger models and I like the price tag. (The only downside is I won't be able to download anything at my apartment because I don't have wifi. Thank goodness we have it at work.) (And I'm not about to stop buying real books, lol. NGL, though, I'm looking forward to having the Sherlock Holmes canon with me anywhere and not carry around my [gorgeous but heavy] brick.) Anyway, now I just have to decide if I want to order my Kindle now (the fun option) or wait until the semester ends in about 5 weeks so it doesn't distract me from homework (the smart option). Uuugh.

AND THEN I HAVE TO PICK A NAME. I have it narrowed down to three. I wanted to name it after a character from a book who loves books. My choices: Klaus [Baudelaire, of ASoUE], Thursday [Next, of the series by Jasper Fforde], or Dawsey [Adams, of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society]. (No, I didn't forget Hermione; my iPod is already named Ron and I didn't want to pick another HP character.) I've loved Klaus the longest, Thursday is probably my fav of the three, and I'm a little in love with Dawsey (the man and the name) so I'm very conflicted. If you have an opinion/vote, please feel free to yell it at me.

Crap, now I really wanna order it. Grrr.

ETA: LOL, immediately after posting this I got a text from Dad: Order it now. Yessir.

And so, Spring Break comes to an end. Well, it came to an end a few days ago. Alas. But I only have, lik3, 6 weeks left in the semester. INSANE. I had planned to finish a book or two over Spring Break but then cross-stitching ate my brain and I made a Castle bookmark for my mom and a Harry Potter bookmark for [info]crawley. And now I'm making a TARDIS bookmark for myself. (What? Bookmarks are fun!)

I'm not going home for Easter this year, which is odd. I have work Saturday and Monday (BOOO) so I was literally just going to drive out for the day, as was Ste, but Mom and Dad said they'd drive out instead. We're just gonna go to brunch somewhere and hang out after mass. I think it'll be more than fine - I care more about being with my family than where we are - but it's a little weird to not be doing Easter lunch at home. I'm just thrilled to see Dad; he's been in Brazil for 2 weeks.

I'm this close to finishing my Sherlock Holmes pathfinder project for my Reference class. My professor invited us to send him our projects as we work to get feedback and he said as long as I add this one little thing I'll be done and it will be awesome. :D And this isn't even due for another 2 weeks whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. See what happens when I get to do a project on something that interests me?

5 days until Assassin's Code.
22 days until Maria visits.
29 days until The Avengers.
56 days until Ohio.

I went home Monday night after work to watch Castle with Mom and hang out with her for her birthday, which was on Wednesday. Dad and Ste are both out of town, and I'm on Spring Break, so I drove out to relax and spend time with my favorite person (aka my mom). We had a great time: we watched lots of Castle and ate out twice and found me a[n adorable] dress for Nicole's wedding in June.

And I started cross-stitching! I've been wanting to do something lately but I didn't feel like learning how to knit. Cross-stitching is super easy and doesn't really require "learning"; it's basically coloring with thread and I love to color. And following the pattern is kinda like reading Lego instructions so I'm totally addicted. Mom and I ended up watching 2 episodes of Castle and 2 episodes of Bones on Tuesday afternoon; I cross-stitched and she knit the whole time. (Also: she's knitting me a scarf in Gryffindor colors!) Anyway, I'm back at my place now, but I just finished my first project (besides the little starter kit I made to practice): a Slytherin crest for my friend, Maria!

And now I'm gonna work on a bookmark for myself. :D

And I only have 2 more shifts at work before I get to go home for 2-ish days!
