there is neither happiness nor misery in the world;

there is only the comparison of one state with another.

Title: Yardstick Family Through the Years
Words: 11,192
Disclaimer: Not mine. Just borrowing. zombres is very generous when granting permission.
Summary: Yet another collection of ficlet snapshots of the Hawthone family. A companion to Strong Man and Yardstick Family.
Note: This is a collection of random one-shots. There is no throughline and they jump around in the timeline LIEK WHOA (the first is before Scout is born, the last is when Scout is in college/Amari is graduated). Honestly, these are just random little fics that I've written for Angie when the mood struck for the last few weeks and she told me to post them. This is also why some of them change tenses from story to story. So just go with it.

For anyone still around LJ, I have a favor to ask.

I just applied for a job. This job is basically my dream job. And it's in a town where two of my best friends from college already live. Which makes it, like, a super dream job. I keep looking at the library's website and every page I click on makes me more and more impressed with their services and programming and facilities. (They have teen programs daily. They're putting on a live version of the 'War of the Worlds' radio show tonight. They have a butterfly garden. They have a form you can fill out if you want a librarian to make you a personalized book rec list. THIS IS NOT A DRILL, PEOPLE.) On paper, this job/library is literally perfect for me. I want a job, obviously, but I want this job a whole hell of a lot.

If you're the praying type: could you send up one on my behalf? If you're not the praying type: cross your fingers for me? I could use all the good vibes I can get. I haven't wanted a job this badly pretty much ever.

you'd think after four years i would be over this

"I’ll miss staying up late just because your friends aren’t going to bed yet." [x]

Holy crap, way to bomb me with Dayton feelings, article. Crap crap crap. Oh God, I'm like 3 weeks away from being graduated and off-campus for four years. And Casey and I were just talking last night about that time Kerry and VT got drunk and Case and I teamed up against them in Super Smash Brothers and it was one of our favorite nights of senior year.

My heart hurts.

Booyeah, chief.

Between my last big project and my next big project - both of which are gifts - I wanted to do something quick and fun and for me, so I sketched out The Middleman and Wendy (using weelittlestitches as a template of sorts) and stitched them up real quick. (Was this also an excuse to rewatch the series? I plead the fifth[, she says, as her DVD player loops the theme song].)

Really, though, I'm super proud of this. I don't think I've attempted making my own pattern for a character since that Iron Man helmet way back when.

P.S. Javi and Natalie both liked it. :D

happy birfday

I toured an abandoned prison yesterday.

It was Moms' Weekend for Ste's frat but he had a weekend class to take so he and Mom couldn't do too much. They went out on Friday night (and Dad came with me to my work's happy hour) but Saturday my parents and I were left to our own devices. Dad had heard about the old Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City and that they do tours on the weekends so we drove out there. It was cold and a little dreary, but that actually kind of fit the area.

It was super fun so I kinda rambled a lot. Plus: PICTURES!Collapse )

tl;dr - It was awesome and here are my photos.

I'm 100% aware that this means very, very little, but even the thought makes me giddy.

Mom: So your dad was thinking we might take a trip for our anniversary in May--
Me: Fun!
Mom: Yeah, but then he said if you brother doesn't get that job that starts right after graduation maybe we should finally take you kids to Disney World before you start your adult jobs.

WHY. WHY WOULD YOU TELL ME THIS. IT'S THE LONGEST OF LONG SHOTS THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AND NOW IT'S ALL THAT I WANT. I mean, really, the chances of this happening are probably like 1% BUT NOW IT IS IN MY HEAD. UUUUUUGH. MOM. FIRST TIME IN DISNEY WITH MY FAMILY? UUUUUUUUUUUUUGH THAT'S ALL I WANT. YOU HAVE SET ME UP FOR SO MUCH DISAPPOINTMENT.

Evil woman.

Note: Angie wanted more. I felt compelled to oblige. ;) It occured to me after I'd finished that I left out a somewhat pertinent detail that I had told Angie about but failed to actually include in the story: Olivia teaches art at a university, Ben's a stay-at-home dad. (Also, I'm aware of the hideous lameness of this title, but I couldn't think of anything better and I just wanted to post it, please don't judge me based on this title oh golly.)
