I went to see "9" today: Spoilers. )

Mom and Dad took me to Fazoli's (YUM) for dinner, gave me The Big Bang Theory s2 on DVD (BAZINGA!), and then we ate funfetti cake and watched Warehouse 13 1x12: Nevermore [aka The One With Michael Hogan] )

And then I decided it would be a good idea to stub my big toe and almost rip the nail off so it HURTS LIKE HELL OMFG and bleeds all over my sock. Did it almost an hour ago. Still hurts like hell. Gah.

01. Mom, Dad, and I went to the mall tonight. We went to Sears so my dad could look at grills but Mom won the night with this quote: "I'm gonna go look at washers and dryers and see if Felicia Day is here." She got a hug for that one. We had Auntie Anne's pretzels for dinner and watched obnoxious teenagers get thrown out by mall cops. Then we stopped by Borders and I bought Joe Haldeman's The Accidental Time Machine and Mom bought me Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman 'cause I couldn't decide and it was gonna be 50% with the book she bought. Or something. Whatever, I got two new books!

02. Looooooved Psych tonight. Buzz needs to be on more often. Streetcar named Shawnsire, LOL.

03. New Boooones promo! Has nothing to do with anything except the cast looking ADORABLE and dancing with skeletons again. Seriously. Adorable. (And TJ looks hot. Like always.)

I went with Dad and Stephen to see District 9 this afternoon. Yes, it is as good as everyone is saying it is. LIKE HOLY CRAP. It's kinda crazy-insane, but the really damn good kind of crazy-insane. Super violent, though; we're glad Mom didn't come along. The main guy - Sharlto Copley - according to IMDB, this is his first acting job. WTF?! He's freaking amazing. He better be a huge star after this.

The funniest part of going to the movies was actually trying to get in. When we got there, Ste and I were standing behind Dad and the woman taking the tickets was kinda pissy.
Woman: Are they [points to Ste and me] with you? Because this is an R-rated movie, y'know.
Ste and I: [look at each other and laugh a little]
Dad: Um, yeah, they're with me, but they're also 19 and almost 22 so...
Woman: Well, I don't know that!

Seriously? I look under 17?

Tomorrow! Dad and I are going! To Screaming Tiki Supercon! Where I will meet Edward James Olmos!

I charged Crowley's batteries. I marked the page for "Celestial Navigation" in my West Wing book. I printed out my ticket receipt for the will-call window. I'm wearing my Jolly Fats Wehawkin shirt in the hopes that someone will shout ART CRAWL at me.

Casey was actually the one who told me about Tiki and she looooves Smallville, so I'm gonna try to get Michael Rosenbaum's autograph for her. I'm on a mission.

Last night at WalMart Mom bought a "Best of Star Trek: The Original Series" DVD. LOL, the thing only has four episodes, but I'd never seen any so it's been fun. (I never knew my mom used to watch! She says it was one of my grandmother's favorite shows. I kinda like knowing that.) We've watched "Trouble with Tribbles," "City on the Edge of Forever," and we just finished "Amok Time." OH THE CHEESE. It's hilarious and awesome and I'm so glad Mom bought it. There's one episode left, but I can't remember what it is. I'm hoping we'll watch it tomorrow.

Tracklisting for the Battlestar Galactica Season 4 Soundtrack. WANT NOW PLZ. Also: Trailer for BSG The Plan. (I'd forgotten Eddie directed that. Maybe he'll talk about it at Screaming Tiki...)

Oh yeah, and Dad's gonna go with me to Screaming Tiki! I'm extra super excited now! :D

Ugh, I'm still tired from this weekend. And I can't sleep in tomorrow because people are coming to work on the house at 9am. Boooooo. Logic would dictate I go to bed early, but let's face it: I'm not Spock and I'll probably still stay up late tonight.

More details on Chuck's Comic-Con panel. By the way, Burn Notice is gonna be there, too. That's unfortunate only because Dad looooooves Burn Notice and he was the one who was planning to go with me. (Can I also just say that I'm imagining Twitter will be going crazy during Comic-Con and I was all excited thinking about that, but we're gonna be literally driving to STL and/or moving into the new house during all of Comic-Con so I'm gonna have to catch up on everything after the fact and it just really bums me out. Okay. End of song.)

TFAW.com is having a Joss Whedon Birthday Sale: anything Joss-related is 30% off. It ends tomorrow (23 June) night. I'm tempted to get the Serenity model/ornament but the shipping charges are a lot more than I thought it would be. Hmmmm.

If there's anyone left who hasn't seen the Twilight/Buffy mashup, you're missing out on something amazing.

i can fix that

Just got back from my second viewing of Star Trek. Ste and his friend Tracy were going tonight and I asked if I could tag along. As I was leaving the house, Dad told me to tell Ste to use his credit card so Dad could treat us (all three of us) to the movie. I ♥ my daddy; he paid when we saw it last weekend, too. I was hoping that I would love the movie just as much the second time around and that I wouldn't regret buying the McCoy and Spock action figures. Good news: I STILL LOVE IT AND MY ACTION FIGURES.

Frak. This movie. This movie fills me with so much GLEE and HAPPINESS and I want it on DVD RIGHT NOW.

P.S. Both Dollhouse and Castle have been renewed. OH HAPPY DAY.

Basically all I have to say about today is that Star Trek was AMAZING and I absolutely loved it. Dad, Stephen, and I went during a house showing this morning and we all thought it rocked. I've never seen a Star Trek movie or show before but I loved Spock and Bones. And Scotty and Chekov and Kirk and Sulu and everyone else, but Spock and Bones the most. I kinda wanna see it again.

P.S. TOTALLY LOVED THE SCORE, GIACCHINO. ♥

Dad took me to the storage place today so I could get my BSG dvds. [Pshaw. Like I would want them packed away for months.] I think I shall celebrate by watching a s1 episode today.

On the way back from the storage place, Dad took me to look at a car. Hugo's still working but there's no way in hell he's making the move so at some point this summer I'm going to need a new car. (P.S. Hugo his 100,000 miles the other day!) We looked at the Kia Soul; Dad hasn't done any of his research yet, but I really liked what I saw. And the green color ("Alien") is awesome.

Ste is bouncing around the house right now because the J School at Mizzou just emailed him and said he needs an iPhone when he starts in the fall. He's been begging my parents for an iPhone for months. He is a happy camper.

oh wow, that's a good poem

01. Total Sci-Fi interview with Amy Acker:
Do you sort of feel like working with Joss is being ‘back to normal’?
Doing the Dollhouse pilot, I felt like I was just so happy to be with him. And actually, a lot of the crew is from Angel [including line producer Kelly Manners, director of photography Ross Berryman and stunt coordinator Mike Massa]. So it felt like, ‘Where’s Alexis Denisof?’ [laughs]

LOVE HER.

02. I might be able to write my first Classic American Film paper on how "Serenity" is a Western. *crosses fingers*

03. My dad sent me a text message today that said "OBAMA is PREZ. You are part of a new history in this country." HUZZAH. I am kinda bummed, though, that I couldn't watch any of the coverage because I was in class or at work all day. :/

04. I made NCIS icons. I'm interested to know what anybody thinks since I'm still trying to figure out how Photoshop works. :/ Eh, I'm happy with most of them. Ish.

From Authors on Tour Live!: Louis Sachar reads from and discusses the 10th anniversary edition of Holes. Oh my gosh, Holes is 10 years old?! [I haven't listened to this yet so I have no idea how interesting it is.] ETA: They re-released Holes in hardback in September (who knew?) for the 10th anniversary. That is an ugly-ass cover. :/

The Star Wars Secret Santa gifts (see: sophomore year, junior year) tradition has come to an end. However, my friend Jenny did get me something pretty cool: Lost and Philosophy: The Island Has Its Reasons. It's a collection of essays from 27 modern philosophers about Lost and its themes. Nifty, huh?

My mom sent exam fudge. YUMMY. Oh good gosh, this stuff is good. You should all be jealous. ;)

Yesterday was Stephen and BJ's 3 year anniversary (congrats, guys!). Today is Mum Day (I hope Ste has fun) and I'm getting my new driver's license. And then, tomorrow, Mom and Dad come to visit! Basically, this post is to rejoice in the fact that it's FRIDAY. I love Fridays.

01. Want further proof that Bear McCreary is completely awesome? Check out his blog on "Revelations" (spoilers obviously), particularly the lyrical, Latin stuff towards the end. Can we just get a soundtrack now, please?

02. Christopher Moore gives his opinion on Amazon's Kindle in a blog entitled "Why The Kindle Isn't a Complete P.O.S." (which he had implied in an earlier blog entry). This entry also includes this line: ....Amazon had sent Kindles to my friends Neil Gaiman and Daniel Handler for review... He's friends with Neil Gaiman and Daniel Handler. NEIL GAIMAN AND DANIEL HANDLER. I ♥ Chris. (Let's not forget my buddy Jeff Guinn referred to Chris as his friend and also said he knew Jasper Fforde. All these writers I like are buddies, I love it!) Also: the man has a lot of computers, cameras, iPods, etc. Damn.

01. Yesterday, before I had work and Dad left, we finally finished watching the BSG miniseries (that we started a week ago). I was kinda worried that Dad wouldn't like it, but he did! And he was so shocked by the ending, which was pretty cool since I totally wasn't when I watched it since I had been super spoiled. Lately, Dad has had Ste rip episodes of "24" off of his DVDs and put them on his iPod so he has something to watch on the plane; he told me when he's done with "24" he wants Ste to put the first season of BSG on his iPod. YAY.

02. Did anyone else see the last inning of the LSU/UC-Irvine game yesterday evening? INTENSE. So glad my Tigers pulled it out. One more time and they're on their way to Omaha! (It's funny - I can usually only watch baseball in small doses because I find it to be a slooooow game, but as soon as the CWS comes around it's like "let's watch lots and lots of baseball!" Another point for my "college sports > professional sports" theory.)

03. Wanna feel like you're in a horror movie/about to be attacked? Blast a Lost soundtrack while you're driving. I bought Season 3's after work today; how did I miss this coming out?!

04. In trying to upload aforementioned Lost soundtrack into iTunes just now I overheated Orion twice. Yikes. I'm sorry, Orion; don't start randomly shutting down on me!

05. Ste's still on his trip and Dad's in STL so it's just me and Mom tonight. I feel like we should watch a girly movie or something. Eh, we'll probably watch baseball or West Wing.

My day, in positives and negatives:

- woke up with a headache
+ went to mass and got McDonald's for breakfast (mmmm Cinnamelt)
- went to work
- stayed a work for what seemed like a long-frakking-time since we were dead
+ got sent home 1/2 hour early
+ talked Dad into watching the BSG miniseries with me
- paused miniseries halfway through but...
+ it was to play cornhole with Mom, Dad, Ste, and Beej
+ come back inside to find out Protect and Defend is coming out in paperback in August (YAY!)
- now I'm waiting to see if Dad will watch the rest of the miniseries or put it off til "later"

I think that adds up to an "okay" day.

i've got a bad feeling about this

Today was a good day. Just a really good day.

I went out to breakfast with Ste and BJ, which was a lot of fun. We got chocolate chip waffles at Waffle House and, because we're lazy, we drove there. :P After that I came back and started working on my card catalog. Stephen even helped for a while; he was very enthusiastic about looking up the publishers and page numbers for me. Then Dad and I went to see Indiana Jones - he liked it, too! - and on the way home we got a french silk pie from Baker's Square. (Oh! I actually saw Patchy in the movie this time!) Then more card catalog before mass. Then we had dinner, watched Boooones (Dad hadn't seen the finale), ate the aforementioned pie, and now I'm back to recording all my books. My shelves are really lonely. I might have to take "after" pictures.

Ste and his friends stole my chair. :( I'm kneeling at my desk right now.
